 Shostakovich/Symphony No.4 was completed in1936. It’s a masterpiece consists of 3 movements. During the rehearsal of
premiere, Shostakovich changed his mind and withdrew the work. It was finallypremiered in 1961. Nobuko Imai will play the solo of Viola Concerto, which isBartok’s last work. Akira Miyoshi’s Overture de fete, a magnificent piece with a huge instrumentation was composed for Expo ’07.

 Music Director of Beethoven Orchestra Bonn,Blunier will be conducting a line-up of late Romantic works composed during1883 to 1896. Schoenberg’s Notturno is a piece for strings and harp which wasbelieved to have been lost since the premiere in 1896 but identification wasmade and was published in 2001. Works by R.Strauss and Brahms were both
composed around 1883 and ten years later “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks” wascomposed. Super star hornist, Baborak will be performing on stage.

Anton Bruckner/ Symphony No.3 in D minor,’Wagner’

Johannes Fritzsch was born in Meissen,Germany, a city famous for the manufacture of porcelain in 1960 and he studied at the Carl Maria von Weber Music Academy in Dresden. He is currently Chief Conductor of the Philharmonisches Orchester Graz and Grazer Oper, Austria and Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Australia. Between his tight schedules, he will be performing with Gunma Symphony Orchestra for the first time. He will conduct three major romantic composers’ works which he is talented. Especially, Bruckner’s Symphony No.3 which was dedicated to Wagner is a masterpiece but not often performed. You can’t miss it.

 Ceccherini was born in Milan, 1973. He is known as a supporter of contemporary music and has an established reputation for his interests in ancient music. He is going to perform with Gunma Symphony Orchestra for the first time with the works of Italian composers. “Fontane di Roma” is one of the most eminent examples of the symphonic poem which meant to depict one of Rome’s fountains. “Stabat Mater” is a masterpiece known as a religious subject but it is more like Arias from an opera. It was composed after the premiere of “William Tell”, Rossini’s last opera. We also look forward to Radoeva and young Japanese star vocalists.

2012 is the 150th anniversary of Debussy. His “La boite a joujoux” (premiered in 1913/1919) was originally written as a piano score. His pupil tailored the orchestration and it is seldom performed. Akira Miyoshi’s “Sur les bois” (1983) is a piece for piano duet and orchestra. Concerto for two pianos and orchestra by Poulenc is as famous as the Mozart’s. Ravel’s “Bolero” (1928) is a well-known masterpiece. Inoue’s blast through his ballet music will lead Gunma Symphony Orchestra members’ outstanding solos.

Kimbo Ishii-Eto has performed with Gunma Symphony Orchestra couple of times but this will be his debut with us in our subscribtion concerts. He was also a violinist who studied at the Julliard School and currently he is the Music Director of the Theater Mangdeburg. He appears frequently in Japan. Joining him on stage will be Teiko Maehashi. Each variation is refaced with either a nickname or initials(enigma) and it is commonly referred to as “Enigma Variations” Most of the enigma has been solved but it is said that there is more enigma hidden.

Gustav Mahler/ Symphony No5 in C Sharp minor

 

Champion of 2010 Geneva International Music Competition, Mami Hagiwara makes her debut with the Gunma Symphony Orchestra. The newspapers called her “23 year old NODAME (Japanese manga character)” when she won the prize. Mahler’s Symphony No.5 is perhaps best known for its use of “Adagietto” in the 1971 Luchino Visconti film “Death in Venice”. It’s a masterpiece which lasts over an hour. It highlights the extraordinary musicians of our own orchestra with Numajiri in his third year.

Daniel Klajner was born in Switzerlandand has won a prize in the Min-on Conductors Competition in Tokyo. He conducts in Europe, mainly in France. Faure’s “Pelleas et Melisande Suite” sets the tone for Klajner’s debt concert with the Gunma Symphony Orchestra. It was composed in 1901 and “Sicilienne” is well-known for it’s beautiful flute solo. Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto was premiered in the same year, 1901. Yukio Yokoyma, a popular pianist will join him. We will bring down the curtain on a thrilling season with Tchaikovsky’s best-loved Symphonies.
